Wilton Course 3, Class 1

by Melissa on May 19, 2008

Yay! I can’t believe I have made it to course 3! In the 8 short weeks that I have been taking cake decorating classes, I feel like I have learned so much.

I have really been looking forward to course 3. This course covers some new borders, tiered cakes and introduces fondant.

In the first class we learned how to make a string border, cornelli lace border, sotas border and a bead border. We also covered how to do brush embroidery, a ruffle border and ruffle garland. We had some extra time at the end of the class, so we learned how to make a rose from fondant. No pictures tonight since most of the work we did was on the practice board.

Next class: The “package” cake- covering a square cake with fondant and creating a bow.

Supplies needed: I purchased the Course 3 kit already, but I need to pick up a fondant roller and wooden dowel. I also need to decide whether I am going to make my own fondant or buy the pre-made.
