I was struggling with the design of my daughter’s first birthday cake for a while. I didn’t really want to do any sort of character cake and knew that I wanted a two-tier cake. In the end I decided to keep with the pink and purple circle theme. The bottom layer is a 9-inch chocolate layer cake with vanilla buttercream, and the top is a 6-inch yellow layer cake with chocolate buttercream. The cakes are covered and decorated with marshmallow fondant. I used the extra cake batter from the yellow cake to make Abby her own cupcake with pink buttercream. The number at the top of the cake is a white chocolate lollipop that I made with a candy mold. I made extra lollipops to give to the kids who came to the party.
