Goodbye 2008 and 200th Post!

by Melissa on December 31, 2008

I have a very large backlog of posts to get up, but I decided that I wanted my last post of 2008 and also my 200th post to be one of review and reflection. 2008 was a a very exciting year for me in my culinary adventures. First off, I started this blog on January 28th and it has grown into more than I could imagine. I love what my little virtual cookbook has become. I have pushed myself take on new challenges simply to be able to “blog about them.” As a result, I am much more comfortable in the kitchen, both with cooking and baking. I also love that people actually read my blog, and I love reading your comments. Thank you!

Here are some of my favorite posts from the past year:

January:

img_0121.jpg Chocolate Chip Cookies- this is my favorite chocolate cookie recipe ever, they always come out perfectly soft and delicious!

February:

img_0527.jpg Gnocchi with Sausage and Kale- this has become a staple in our house, my husband loves this recipe and requests it at least a couple times a month.

March:

img_1403.jpg Parmesan-Pecorino Orzo- again, this recipe has become another staple in our house. We love the versatility of orzo, and have it frequently as a side dish.

April:

Oatmeal Carmelitas- probably my favorite bar recipe, so easy to make and always delicious.

May:

Chicken Enchiladas- I love Mexican food, and these were fantastic!

June:

Scallops Provencal- my favorite seafood recipe.

Death by Chocolate Triffle- this has been one of my top posts since I made it, it is always a hit wherever I bring it.

July:

Pork Tenderloin Medallions with Lemon Mustard Sauce- the pork is so flavorful and tender, and the lemon mustard sauce is just plain delicious!

Spinach Spread- one of my “go-to” appetizers.

August:

Seven Layer Salad- perfect for a cookout.

September:

Pina Colada Cupcakes- the combination of coconut cupcakes and pineapple frosting made these my all time favorite cupcakes.

Cheddar Ale Spread- I can’t wait to make this again for the Superbowl!

October:

Cherry Upside Down Cake- this is a must-have in our house once the weather gets cold, especially around Christmas.

Pineapple Chicken Salad- a different and delicious way to prepare chicken salad, this was a huge hit at my sister-in-law’s baby shower.

November:

0431 Caramelized Onion and Bacon Tartlets- Heaven in a tart shell, enough said.

151 Fresh Apple Cake- I grew up with this cake and it will always be one of my favorites.

December:

img_4275Honey Yeast Rolls- a very popular recipe in the food blog world, for good reason, these are the best rolls ever!

Some other favorites:

Beverages:

028 Warm Spiced Cider- Made in the crockpot and perfect for a cold day!

Strawberry Lemonade- A bit more work than the spiced cider, but delicious and refreshing.

Cakes:

Abby’s First Birthday Cake-I also took the Wilton Cake Decorating classes this year and discovered that I love decorating cakes! I made a ton of cakes, both in and out of class, but my favorite decorated cake was this one that I made for my daughters first birthday party. I was so proud of how it came out!

Classic Pooh Cake- I made this for my sister-in-laws baby shower and it was so cute!

Cake Flavors:

img_4370 Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting- if you like carrot cake, you will love this recipe.

057 Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Frosting- my favorite cake/frosting combination. This chocolate cake is my “go-to” recipe, and it is perfect with creamy peanut butter frosting.

Perfect Party Cake- the combination of fresh lemon and raspberry flavors truly makes this a perfect party cake.

Crockpot:

img_1125.jpg Chicken Taco Soup- a warm and hearty soup, and so simple to make.

Cupcake Bites!

This year in review would not be complete without a shout-out to Cupcake Bites. A huge Thank You to Bakerella for coming up with these little treats. I made them here, here and here.

Thank you for reading my blog and I hope you have a happy and safe New Years Eve!
