Stuffed Sausage Cups

If you have been a long time reader of this blog, then you may remember seeing this recipe before. But, the old post and picture are terrible and these yummy little appetizers deserve to be posted again.

Frozen phyllo cups are stuffed with a creamy, cheesy sausage mixture and baked until golden brown. They can be made ahead of time, and would be especially perfect for an upcoming Super Bowl party! :)

Stuffed Sausage Cups

  • 1 pound ground bulk sausage
  • 4-5 green onions, sliced thinly or 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened (regular or 1/3 less fat)
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 packages frozen phyllo cups (such as Athens brand)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large skillet, brown sausage over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft. Add cream cheese, stirring constantly until cheese has melted. Add cheddar cheese and continue to heat through until the cheddar has just melted. Spoon 1 tablespoon of the sausage mixture into each mini phyllo cup. Arrange filled cups on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until just starting to turn golden brown.

Source: I have had this recipe written down for years, I think it may have come from one of my mom’s old church cookbooks.

The filling sounds scrumptious. I recently made a Pate a` chou dough that cried for a savory filling. I may have found exactly what I was looking for, with this post. Super Bowl appetizer…now that’s a great idea!

So easy and so delicious! I follow the recipe to a T, and used 3 packages of phyllo cups (45 cups) and even still had some extra filling. I used the extra and put it into crescent rolls and baked- it was so good! Thanks for the recipe!
